Fun, relaxed ways to get your young eaters to try new things!

When it comes to mealtime and struggling with picky eating, times (and strategies) have changed! If you have been to in-person markets in the past, you know there are lots of mother/daughter shoppers who attend these events together (I'm talking about an adult daughter and her mother). When I see them coming to my booth I sometimes preemptively play out how the conversation will go in my mind (I try not to stereotype, but 50% of the time my prediction is correct). The convers

    Mexican "Shrimp" Torta

“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” - George Bernard Shaw I would never had believed it if my older self came and told my younger self that one day I would love cooking and would look forward to baking with my kids and making dinner everyday. I was an order-out-three-nights-a-week type girl, and when I did cook, most people didn't ask for seconds. I found my love for cooking and food when I forced my family to go plant-based and I had to get creative in order t

    Cauliflower and Mushroom Banh Mi

Ridiculously easy, insanely delicious, Banh Mi sandwiches with pickled veg and a side of roasted squash. The Banh in Banh Mi means 'bread' so it is a very important element in the dish. The main ingredients that remain consistent are the pickled veggies and cilantro. You can make this dish in a variety of ways; pork, chicken, beef, tofu, lentils, mushrooms, shrimp, etc. I often laugh when I create these dishes and think of a way I can market them to my family. I wonder if the

Not Your Regular Daycare Special - Mushroom Grilled Cheese with Homemade Tomato Soup.

There is so much coziness and comfort in grilled cheese and tomato soup! Unless you spent a lot of time in a daycare. When I was in university, I worked at a daycare during the day, in between my classes. Each day, I would enter the daycare and the smell of No Name brand canned tomato soup and processed grilled cheese would enter my nose and cause me to shiver a little (it didn't help that it was mixed with the smell of soiled diapers and strong disinfectants). Mac and cheese

    BBQ "Pork" Ramen

This ramen can be prepared in so many different ways. It can be made with meat, made vegetarian (when the egg is added), or it can be totally vegan. The 'pork' in this ramen is made from rehydrated soy curls. When I make a complex meal like this I like to put all the toppings in the middle of the table so everyone can sort of create their own. When children see parents modeling healthy habits, without pushing them on the kids, the kids are more likely to mimic or follow. This

    Super Sloppy Lentil Joes!

Growing up I was a very picky eater and especially struggled when it came to eating meat. When I was old enough to make my own decisions, I cut meat out of my diet completely because I had so many negative memories attached to it. One day in University I was at my girlfriend's house for dinner and her dad was grilling steaks. He was so proud of his grilling abilities and I didn't have the heart to tell him I was a vegetarian. So I swallowed my pride and the meaty, BBQ morsel

    Why won't my child eat?

Being a parent can be exhausting! We are responsible for the mental and physical well-being of these little mouldable people and in this day and age, it is anything but easy. We wake up early to get everyone ready for their day, we wipe countless butts, we deal with sass and talkback, and barely have time (or privacy) to wipe our own butts! We see people all over social media who seem to have it all figured out and are so well put together. They wear matching outfits every da
